"God, Cancer and Me:"
"A Journey from Final Stage Cancer... to Being Cancer Free!" By Greg Wilkinson
In Sept. of 2006 Greg was diagnosed with Stage Four cancer of the tongue, which had spread to his lymph glands, and then it really started to spread. I posted about this the following month here, though that post was regarding God's healing power more than Greg and Vernie. Anyway, the book is all about Greg and Vernie's journey to being cancer free, and it's an amazing one of faith, prayer, praise, and glorifying God in the midst of pain, doubt, body parts not working (don't take your salivary glands for granted), eating through a tube in his stomach, and more pain, not to mention the financial end. This book was incredibly encouraging to my faith, and challenged me in a variety of ways. Probably the most challenging was watching how Greg loved others - thought of others first - throughout this whole ordeal, with his general attitude and faith in God in spite of circumstances being a close second. Then there's just his constant heart for prayer and worship (which he shares with Vernie), trusting God in the midst of these trials. I highly recommend this book. It's an easy read, only being a little over 100 pages long, and it is well balanced in its presentation of faith to heal while pursuing all the medical wisdom God has provided doctors, while also being fully prepared that God could heal him by taking him home. God has once again used Greg and Vernie to impact my life, as I talk about in that blog post, and I'm so thankful they're still around for more impacting moments.
