I wonder if this answers why people tend to ask the question, "If God is good/powerful/etc., then why doesn't He fix problems, or why does He allow tragedy?"

This quote made me think of the many episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation that involved, "Q," the god-like character who constantly was at odds with Picard, and with whom Picard was constantly arguing for mankind's right to do things our way.  I'm not sure if that YouTube video is the best example, but it does communicate some ways the Picard and Q were at odds, as well as the constant battle between mortals and the Q Coninuum... though it was really just Q.
