Celebrating Six Decades of Life
This past weekend we celebrated 60 years of life for both my parents. We invited family and friends, past and present, to join us. We held it at WVPC here in East Wenatchee. We separated the room in half. We decorated one side al 1950's, and the other all 1960's, then invited people to dress up accordingly. There were some very fun outfits, but I think my brother's family took the prize for the best outfits. Jason and his bride dressed up from the 50's, including an Elvis wig and leather jacket. Their two kids dressed up as hippies, with bandannas, tie-dye, and even buttons. As soon as they post pictures, I'll make sure to link them up from here.
Shari did an amazing job on decorations. My aunt and uncle came up from Enumclaw to help, and we had other people take part setting up on Saturday morning, but Shari really did the lion's share of the ideas and effort, and she was amazing. There were streamers and balloons, of course. The 50's side had jukebox center pieces, with pink table cloths and black and white checked napkins. Shari made a banner to go across the top of the wall for both sides. On the 60's side, the tables had orange table cloths, along with napkins celebrating 60 - age, decade, whichever. we had a black and white birthday cake, as well as a cupcake set-up that looked tie-dyed. My aunt created some great center pieces for the 60's side that included flower-power and other 60's stuff. We thought about having some marijuana plants as center pieces, but decided that might not go so well, even in Washington.
My brother put together an amazing collection of music. He had Elvis, the Beatles, and the Monkeys, of course. But then he had some other songs from both decades that were excellent. You could tell he and his wife and way too much fun picking them out. When we sang Happy Birthday to mom and dad, Jason put on, "Happy, Happy Birthday, Baby." Then Grandpa and Lois danced to some old country music, which was fun to see. Jason had just about everything on there.
A good time was had by all, and many family members came from out of town, including my sister, thanks to some aunts and uncles' generosity. Mom and dad loved it, and enjoyed visiting well into the wee hours of Sunday morning after the party. We're thankful to all who helped make it successful.
