Winter Retreat 2009 Pt. 2

It's 12:30 am now, and the kids are all on their way to bed. Two more joined us about 11:45. One had a basketball game. They won! WooHoo! The sleds are amazing. One even has a flag on it, signed by all the students and staff. Someday we'll have a web page for pictures, hopefully by the end of the month. The other team has a very cool duck, complete with an orange "bill" (hat) and tail feathers. It will be interesting to see how these two very different approaches to the laws of physics work out.

Our trip up here was relatively uneventful. We stopped by BK for dinner, and we got out of there about 30 min. later than I would have liked. Still, we were doing okay until we hit the camp's driveway. First the truck and trailer couldn't make it up the hill. It's a river of ice between two snowbanks. At least the trailer couldn't go off the road. We chained up the truck eventually (after trying it in 4-wheel), and we finally made it. Then the bus tried. No go there, either. Unfortunately, the bus wasn't able to stay on the river of ice, and slid off the bank a little. No damage done, but they ended up getting a backhoe to spread some gravel to give the bus some traction. It worked, but, between that and the computer problems that seem to be obligatory for something like this, we were about 90 min. late getting started. Ohhhh, welll. It's the nature of youth ministry. At least everybody's still healthy and going strong. Next stop: about 5 hours of sleep... if I hurry.
