Yikes! (Again)

I'm almost 20 min. late for my next block of time on my schedule, but I felt the need to at least touch base. If I'd been a good blogger, I would have joined the hosts of people who posted the things they're thankful for. Not this year. This may be my only post this week, as my week is crazy packed, and there are some things that I'm expecting will come up, I just don't know when, so they aren't in the schedule yet. This could make for an interesting week. But, I know that God is my strength, and my wisdom in delegating and planning. Please, Lord, help me to use my time wisely. Also, help me not to start sentences with conjunctions (But...).

A review of the weekend...
We spent the weekend at my folks' house. We got to share the wonderful holiday with my parents, my youngest brother and his family, my sister, my grandfather, and a friend of the family. The food was excellent. Mom and I enjoyed the wonderful taste of oyster dressing, which I haven't had in several years. Others enjoyed the taste of yams and sweet potatoes with marshmallows. To each their own, I guess. Other things we did included watching football with my son (Pitt beat W.VA in a close game), playing Pictionary (yes, mom, I did enjoy myself, even if I struggled to have a good attitude), at which the girls thoroughly beat the guys, and simply being with my family.

Shari and I also enjoyed spending time with Doug and Peggy, our pastor and his wife from Moses Lake. That visit was way too short, but ohhhh so sweet. Shari and I drove down there Saturday afternoon. We're thankful to mom and dad for watching the kids for us so we could make that connection. Thanks, guys, for your Godly input.

The highlight of the weekend - for me - was playing basketball. When I was growing up, almost every Thanksgiving and/or Christmas was spent with my mom's sister and her family (read: lots of cousins/family). Every time we got together for a holiday, we would all go down and play basketball, family vs. family. It was a blast, as well as educational. My dad and uncle were amazingly funny together. I remember times when we would end up laughing so hard, we'd get the ball taken or blocked because we couldn't see or move straight. Yet, both my dad and uncle never failed to take the time (even when we didn't want them to because we were teenage basketball players and new everything) to show us how to do something better. Well, it's been a few years since we've had those games, but - almost accidently - this year the Loeffler's got together at a local park and played for at least an hour, and it was a blast. Yes, us siblings and my dad played, but so did my kids (at least for a short time), and my niece and nephew. My poor nephew took the brunt of many an elbow, body block, etc. I think it's because he's so small. I don't know, but he handled it well. We laughed and laughed, shot baskets that were insane (or would drive a coach insane), and encourage the young ones to grow and learn. My brother made some amazing shots, and my dad showed that he still has what it takes. My niece and son made some great shots. My favorite move, though, was when my "baby" sister - fresh out of the army as an MP - elbowed my brother in the gut because he was trying to take the ball. Did I mention this was street ball? Yeah - no blood, not too many fouls.
