Because it's been too long
I started to talk about Christmas, but my brain's too muddled to share it in a way that makes sense. Today is the day we leave for Winter Retreat, 2008. The bags are mostly packed. Shari and I had a wonderful time visiting with our speaker, Jenny Willis, from Gig Harbor, WA. She returned from the World Race in November, then spent New Year's Eve in Kansas City, MO at The Call, so she's had a busy 2007. Now she's going to share with our teens about dying to ourselves to live for Christ. God's put some great stuff on her heart to share, and she's a very passionate young lady. I'm looking forward to seeing what God does this weekend.
This month promises to be very full for our family. I leave today for Winter Retreat. Monday night is our board meeting. Next weekend I spend Friday night with our Youth Staff, then Saturday taking a first-aid/CPR class all day. The following Thursday, Shari leaves for Washington to be in a wedding. That will be a great time of getting away, visiting old friends, and just being alone. The last weekend of January is the AWANA Grand Prix, for which I've got to spend this month helping the boys get their cars ready. My dad cut out the designs for them, but now I've got to help the boys sand and paint them. Craft is not my thing, yet I want to want to because it's time with my boys, and I love them so much, and this is important to them. Sooo... I've got to make it important to me, and have a good attitude about it. The race itself will be a blast. The 27th is a Youth Staff meeting, then the 28th is the all-church business meeting. I'm praying that we vote in a strong, Godly, praying trustee - a future elder, even - to add as a fourth person to our trustees. In the midst of all that, I'm speaking to, coaching, mentoring, and simply playing with students and staff. I give thanks that, in the midst of all of this, none of it has to do with health issues or other struggles. May God give us a full, but safe, January.
So, those are some random thoughts about the upcoming month. I'll try and post something with more depth - or at least something not quite as random - next week. Until then, your prayers for our weekend are appreciated.
