In Opening...

This really isn't a true opening, as I'm really simply transferring my blog from YD's web page to this blog sight in order to post pictures and do a host of other things that I can't do through the YD web site. Still, since it's been over a month since I posted there, some may see this as a new beginning. Whatever.
Maybe now I'll post more often since people may be more likely to read this blog than the one on the YD web site. Then again, maybe I'll find I have just as little time as before. Whichever, it's good to know that I can ramble occasionally, and nobody will really care.
Since this is primarily where I'll come to type thoughts and think about life stuff, I might as well get a jump now. Here's an article I read tonight that explores the tension between abiding and abounding - Mary and Martha types of stuff. Numbers four and five on his list really made me think about my life. Am I really doing what I'm passionate about, and could I be better at planning my leisure time? These are things I'm struggling with. Shari and I have talked about sometimes feeling like life controls us instead of the other way around. In some respects, this is accurate. Things happen that you can't control to a degree - crises and exciting moments alilke. Still, could we enjoy our leisure and our work more if we were more careful about planning things around what we enjoyed vs. what we felt we have to do for whatever reason.
On the other hand, (No, Doug, I still haven't seen "Fiddler On The Roof, but we can watch it sometime after you return.) we watched "Mulan II" over the Christmas break, and it seemed like the whole theme for the movie was that one should put your feelings (they say "heart," but it's ultimately your feelings) over duty and doing what's right. I don't buy that either - God's pretty clear that there's a right and a wrong way of doing things, and that He does have a plan that we should follow.
Where does that leave me? Needing to take steps to a)discover what I'm passionate about, and b)do it. That requires time with God so I'm not following my fleshly passions, but the ones He has put in my heart.
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
So, I come back to what I know I need to be doing anyway - spending time with Him... which is good no matter what I'm wrestling with... or rejoicing over. Speak, Lord, please. I'm listening... or trying to.
